The brief

I collaborated with STUDIO tla, a Toronto and Dallas-based master planning, urban design and landscape architecture firm, to refine their logo and create a complete brand guide. The project began with a brand kick-off questionnaire I developed, covering the firm’s values, target clients, positioning, competitors, design preferences and where the brand would be used, which gave the work a clear foundation before any design began. The guide sets out logo usage and clear space rules, a monochrome colour palette, primary and secondary typography with accessibility-focused best practices, and imagery direction. From there, I designed the templates the team uses day to day: an InDesign RFP proposal template, a presentation deck, a staff CV template, and social media templates for LinkedIn and Instagram covering project updates, awards, news features and recruitment. The goal was to elevate the firm’s presence in the architectural industry with a polished, consistent look across everything it produces.

The challenge

The identity had to resonate with the high-end architectural industry while authentically reflecting the vision of the owners and partners. The palette is intentionally muted, so the system relies on the project imagery to bring in colour, while maintaining confidentiality for sensitive projects. The templates also had to work for staff outside the design team, which meant clear typography rules, a secondary font for Word and PowerPoint, and layouts structured so anyone could produce on-brand documents. The direction wasn’t fully defined at the start, so I explored multiple approaches before settling on a final, cohesive look.
